SkyDiving!!!
Diwakar and I had always wanted to do skydiving. It was always in the back of our mind, and we were always planning for it, but never really getting to do it. I had actually wanted to give Diwakar a surprise for our anniversary (not wedding, proposal!), but couldn’t. Then after I got my first paycheck from University of Utah, I decided to surprise Diwakar. I decided on a date, made appointments for both of us and gave Diwakar a gift certificate. He was really surprised, and excited!
I don’t know how Diwa was feeling, but I started getting nervous, as we started to drive to the Drop Zone! We went to the drop zone and had tto sit through a 20 min video which showed the basics of doing tandem jump and then we had to sign off (literally signing papers taking all the responsibilities for the risk taken during the jump) our lives to the people with whom we would be doing the tandem jump.
Then we put our gear on and were waiting to get into the plane. The plane wasn’t big, just enough to hold about 10 people in it. It was fitted with a see-through door and I was sitting right next to it, getting a view of how high we were going. And with the increase in altitude, my heart rate was also increasing.
Finally we had reached an altitude of 13,500 feet, from where we are supposed to jump. There was a professional skydiver who plunged through the plane before me. Then, the camera-man who would be shooting my skydiving adventure jumped ahead and was waiting for me to jump. Then Chris (my tandem skydiver) and me crawled ahead to the door and jumped making a back-flip. I was nervous till that moment, but once we jumped and the ethereal beauty the land and the salt lake in the distance hit me. The amazing experience of flying in the air and the beauty of the earth just blew away all the fear from my head. Not for a moment did I have that fear or nervousness after the jump. I was thoroughly enjoying myself, taking in the experience. We had about a minute of free-fall, and then Chris deployed the parachute. After the parachute was deployed, we did 360 degree and 720 degree turns, which would look like we are spiraling down the sky. It was fun, cause Chris let me handle the parachute. And then we had a perfect landing. Check out my video and pictures……

I would suggest everybody to go through this, because it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You will not only experience flying, but also get a unique prospective about Earth and also about your Life!
